Gorilla Trekking Permit Cost in Rwanda (2024)

As of 2024, the standard cost for a single gorilla trekking permit in Rwanda is US$1,500 per person. This fee applies to all international visitors and includes:

  • Park entry fees
  • Guided trekking services
  • A one-hour encounter with a habituated gorilla family
  • Contributions to conservation and community development

For Rwandan nationals and East African Community (EAC) citizens, the permit cost is significantly reduced to US$200. Foreign residents in Rwanda and other African countries pay US$500 per permit.

Additionally, Rwanda offers a 30% discount on gorilla permits during the low season (November to May). To qualify for this discount, travelers must pre-book at least two nights in either Akagera National Park or Nyungwe National Park.

It’s important to note that permits are non-refundable and non-transferable. They are issued on a first-come, first-served basis, and each visitor must present a valid passport at the park headquarters on the day of trekking.

Given the high demand, it’s advisable to book your permit well in advance, especially during peak seasons. Booking through a reputable tour operator can streamline the process and ensure availability.
