Most visitors drive from Kampala via Masindi, the natural halfway point — a paved highway most of the way, with the final 85km from Masindi to the park's Kichumbanyobo Gate on murram (gravel) road. Total driving time runs 4–6 hours depending on stops, road conditions, and season (rainy-season murram roads are slower and a 4×4 is recommended).

En route via Masindi, most itineraries stop at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, roughly halfway from Kampala — worth building into your day rather than treating as a detour, since it breaks up the drive naturally.
Paraa, the park's central hub, sits on the Nile — for decades this crossing was a vehicle ferry running on a fixed daily timetable, but a 520-metre bridge completed in 2025 has replaced it. You can now cross between the south and north banks at any time, without working around a schedule. If you've read older guides to Murchison Falls that describe queuing for the ferry or timing your morning around its first crossing, that advice is now out of date — this is one of the more welcome recent changes for anyone planning early game drives on the north bank.
Charter and scheduled flights from Entebbe International Airport or Kajjansi Airfield near Kampala reach the park in under an hour, landing at one of several airstrips: Pakuba (north of Paraa), Bugungu (south of Paraa), or Chobe (east). This is the practical choice for travellers short on time, combining multiple parks in one trip, or prioritising comfort over the scenic value of the drive.
