Paraa is the functional centre of Murchison Falls National Park — not a single attraction so much as the hub everything else connects through. The Nile splits the park into a north and south bank here, and the Paraa ferry is how vehicles cross between them, running on a scheduled timetable through the day. Most of the park's best-known lodges — including Paraa Safari Lodge, from which the area takes its overlapping name — sit at or near this crossing point.
The Nile boat cruise to the base of Murchison Falls departs from the Paraa jetty, making this the natural starting point for that activity regardless of which bank you're staying on.
Because Paraa is the crossing point between banks, ferry timing genuinely affects your itinerary — if your lodge is on one bank and your morning game drive is planned for the other (typically the north bank's Buligi area), you need to factor the ferry schedule into your morning departure time.
