If one place in Murchison Falls deserves the title "where the safari happens," it's Buligi. This stretch of the north bank — bounded by the Victoria Nile on one side and stretching toward the Albert Nile and Lake Albert delta on the other — holds the park's highest concentration of large mammals, and the large majority of standard game drives run through this network of tracks.
The terrain shifts across the area from open golden savanna dotted with acacia to denser riverine vegetation and patches of woodland, which is part of why wildlife density here is so consistently high — different species favour different parts of the mosaic, and a single drive can move through several habitat types.
Elephants, buffalo, lions, leopards, giraffe, and Uganda kob are all regularly encountered here, alongside strong birdlife. The area also offers sweeping views of the Rift Valley escarpment, Lake Albert, and on clear days, the hills of the Democratic Republic of Congo in the distance.
Buligi's tracks connect into a broader network sometimes referred to by sub-names (Victoria track, Albert track, Buligi track proper), all feeding into the same general game-viewing circuit. Standard game drives here run 3–4 hours; a full-day option covers more ground. Night game drives and hot air balloon safaris are also based out of this same area, offering different ways to experience the same terrain.
Buligi is reached by crossing the Paraa ferry from the south bank — a factor worth building into your morning schedule if your lodge is south of the river.
